in attending Frank Wakefield's group lesson in Chicago is encouraged

Jim Moss is currently involved in designing a vacuum tube mic preamp / processor that
puts to use ideas that he got from talks with Bill Monroe at Bean Blossom in the 1970's
regarding the mandolin sound that Bill said he liked to get through his "driving" mic technique
with the PA system there at the park.  This sound was apparent to all who watched Bill
perform back then, but probably taken for granted at the time.  This however, has been
the sound pursued by Moss in his LPs and CDs with Frank Wakefield.  This sound fly's
in the face of common modern recording practice.  This amp is being designed for use
by Moss on his projects with Frank Wakefield.

The preamp is not for all types of music as it is being specifically designed for acoustic
bluegrass instruments, and mostly the mandolin, fiddle and banjo although it will be
flexible enough to do normal functions too.  The unit will eventually be made available
from ww.candlewater.com as part of a Pro-Audio product line under the Mossware LLC
product label.  Stay tuned...

Work has slowed on the new Wakefield/Moss Bluegrass Instrumental Project awaiting the
coloration capability of this new preamp.

Work on "Adventures In Bluegrass III" which focuses on The Frank Wakefield Band's
recent west coast tour is nearing completion.  The problem is that it "Cut Big" at 2 hrs
and 15 minutes.  Now the job is to get the time down to less than 90 minutes and
hopefully 60 minutes.

In addition, the band is hoping to expand their February west coast tour to include some Arizona shows in 2003.  This will be coupled with Frank Wakefield's Mando Campover held
in Northern California each February.  Here 5 students get a chance to spend 3 days with
Frank by staying with him in the mountains of California.

Just out are 2 new banjo tab books:

Final Note: After receiving a flood of emails in the recent weeks asking to confirm
the rumor that The Frank Wakefield Band has been asked to participate in the making
of OH BROTHER II, we feel that some official response is in order.

All we can say is this:
Although it is a fact that Frank Wakefield and Jim Moss do have some very good friends in
the movie business, to the best of our knowledge, there is no OH BROTHER II in the works.
Furthermore, we don't know how these rumors get started...

Of course, and I think everyone would understand when we say this, that if there were
an OH BROTHER II in the works and if the band had been contacted to participate in
it, in any way whatsoever whether it be for song writing, sound track work or actual
appearance in front of the camera, they surely would not be able to talk about it.
